BORN CREATIVE WORKSHOPS

Creativity is something we are all born with.

It drives problem-solving, fuels innovation, and builds the confidence to speak up, take risks and back your own ideas.

But somewhere between childhood and teenagehood, a lot of girls stop putting their hand up. They stop sharing their ideas, entering the competition, auditioning for the musical, owning their opinions. Not because creativity disappeared, but because the fear of getting it wrong got louder.

We want to change that.

That’s why this October, The Flourish Journey is partnering with MECCA M-POWER, who are investing in girls’ creative futures, to run free ‘Born Creative Workshops’ for teenage girls and gender-diverse young people across Australia and New Zealand. These workshops are designed to reignite the creativity we are born with, support girls in owning who they are, and share it with the world.

What the workshop actually looks like:

❋ Store to Herself

Inside a MECCA store, closed to the public. The doors shut and the space becomes hers. Most workshops run 6.30–8.00pm on a weeknight; Melbourne runs as an extended Sunday session, 10.00am–2.00pm. Exact times are on each city below.

❋ Small Groups

Small groups, facilitated. Led by The Flourish Journey's trained facilitators - a preventative wellbeing charity that has been working with teenage girls for years. Not a lecture, an experience.

❋ Nothing to Bring

She brings nothing but herself. Materials provided. No experience needed. She does not need to think of herself as "creative" to belong there.

What she will walk away with:

Outcome 1: Bust the talent myth

She will leave knowing creativity isn't a skill you either have or don't; it's something we all have and it underpins problem-solving, decision-making and authentic self-expression

Outcome 2: Breaking through barriers

Together we will explore what barriers stop our creativity and exploring how we can break through and redefine creativity for ourselves.

Outcome 3‍: Practical Methods

She will leave with a package of practical methods to keep creativity switched on, explored both during the workshop and to take away with them

Who is this for?

  • The one who is a natural problem solver

  • The one who is always creating new things

  • The one who is a school leader or on a youth council

  • The one who is struggling with confidence

  • The one who loves a challenge

  • The one who hasn’t found her place yet

  • The one who loves trying something new

  • The one who is curious about the world

The one who calls herself creative. The one who doesn’t.

The one who is ready to back herself a little more.

Found this yourself? Good.

You can't nominate yourself, the form has to be filled in by someone over 18. Annoying, we know.

So make it easy for them. Send this to a parent, a teacher, an aunt, a youth worker or anyone who'd back you.

"There's a free creative workshop at MECCA in October, run by a charity called The Flourish Journey. It's free, but someone over 18 has to nominate me. Nominations close 13 September. Would you? Here's the link: https://www.theflourishjourney.org/born-creative-idg-workshop"
